Breathalyser Terminology
Breathalyser termonology simplified Accuracy = the selectivity achievable when the sensor is correctly calibrated. Often displayed as the variation accepted in %BAC ie +/- 0.01%BAC means the unit will display with an accuracy of + or - 0.01 on the display 0.05 the unit may display variance of 0.04 to 0.06 on a series of 3 tests done in sucession. Greater variance would indicate possible loss of calibration, sensor failure, evaporating mouth alcohol or poor breath sampling technique BAC = Blood alcohol concentration commonly displayed as a percentage %BAC or mg/100ml BrAC = Breath alcohol concentration Calibration = the service which sets the reading accuracy of the sensor. Breathalysers which do not have interchangeable sensor modules will need to be sent for service periodically for a calibration service to maintain their accuracy |
